The Pastry Case

A kitchen with good light and something in the oven: brown sugar, butter, time. Burnt Sugar is the warmth of a woman who walks in like she lives there, and Garden Sage is the rosemary on the windowsill that keeps it grounded.

The morning after the rain: polished leaves, a kettle ticking, the chair by the window warm where the sun lands on it. Spearmint is the clear head of someone who has just decided, and Bare Oak is that chair, so the cool reads fresh instead of cold.

A rooftop at golden hour, music loud enough to feel in your chest, a drink the color of a sunset in her hand. Tangerine Fizz and Fuchsia Shock carry the party, and Dusk Concrete is the cool rooftop they get to stand on.

The hour before the light decides: lavender bleeding into rose, a porcelain cup catching the morning. Dawn Blush is softness chosen on purpose, and Plum Shadow is the night still at the horizon, the depth the softness rises out of.

A Paris hotel room, late, with champagne that is barely pink and a masterpiece in progress on the desk. Dark Ganache is the outside of the truffle box, Rosé Fizz is the bubbles catching candlelight, and Champagne Foil is the gold at the edge of the wrapper.

A cool room after dark: concrete walls, a chrome and slate bar, gin-clear ice. One warm thing in it, the raspberry in her hand, and everything else is there to make it mean what it means.
